Dear friends,
Last week I was in Pretoria, back in the city centre. There, I worked at a holiday club for kids. Every day a great program for kids was offered: bouncy castles, play stations, craft units and so on.
Of course, everything here revolves around soccer. The holiday club was located in the so-called "Burger Park”. There is a large canvas onto which all the games of the World Cup are transferred. After a week of deafening Vuvuzela noise these horns are pretty on my nerves. The fact that South Africa was kicked out hasn’t affected the atmosphere and noise level in the least.
The work in the holiday club was quite nice. Initially, for our team it was quite difficult to get into it. We were told that we should develop our own program. The truth was that the program had already been planned completely.
In effect, we never knew exactly what happened, and often the leaders did not appear. Thus, several times we had to organise something spontaneously and keep 120 children busy.
In addition the organizers were not Christians and thus it was difficult to bring in evangelism. Nevertheless it was a good time.
The last two days I was on the base preparing for the next program. I will work for 17 days with a new team in a church in Pretoria. We do not yet know what awaits us.
A considerable challenge is the cold. In the afternoon the weather is nice, but in the evening and morning temperature is below freezing here. The cold in the non-insulated houses with no heating really makes us suffer.
I hope very much that soon after this I can report to you. We will have three days on the base and then have an official closure of our discipleship training. Then I will be in Durban for a week.
Thanks for all your prayers and support. I am looking forward to seeing you again and share more of my experiences with you.
Many greetings and a lot of blessings,
Pina
